How metal bands name themselves
This generator forges compounds, "X of Y" names, single heavy words, invented guttural words with pronunciation, and Latin phrases that are actually correct, each with a translation.
Patterns you'll see
- Forged compound. Megadeth, Soulfly, Stormbringer-style compounds: one heavy word.
- "X of Y". Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, Sons of Apollo: mythic and sweeping.
- Iron + noun. Iron Maiden, Machine Head, Judas Priest: a weapon or relic as identity.
- Foreign or ancient language. Gojira (Japanese for Godzilla), Sepultura (Portuguese for "grave"): meaning that rewards the curious.
Tips
- Test it in a spiky logo: does it still read? (Use our poster preview.)
- Latin and other languages are great if they are correct; ours are checked.
- Single words are powerful but heavily used; check them first.
Avoid: Avoid Nazi or hate-group imagery and references to real atrocities. They are not "extreme", they are a reason for venues, labels and platforms to drop you.
